Q Group Logo

A Brief History

In 1998 the Committee decided to conduct a logo competition to find a new logo for the Q Group that could be used on printed material, on this web site and on selected gifts such as mouse mats, T-shirts and pens. The competition was open to all members, their families, friends and colleagues.

The Committee received a number of good designs, but found one to be particularly appealing. Ernie Chow, at that time with County Investment Management, was declared the winner of the $250 prize for his design. Ernie's logo incorporates our name into an efficient frontier, which symbolises one of the earliest, but long lasting, contributions of quantitative techniques to the theory and practice of financial investing. A proposal to adopt Ernie's design as the official logo was passed at the 1998 Annual Meeting.
