ABSTRACT

Quantum computers enable exponential speedups in algorithms due to the use of quantum mechanical effects to perform many operations in parallel. These state of the art machines are being developed in laboratories now. This presentation will provide a brief overview of Quantum Computing to set the context. It will then focus on the maths of quantum computing looking at concepts like qubits, superposition, entanglement and measurement. We will then drill down into the maths behind two prevalent quantum computing paradigms: Quantum Gate computing and Quantum Adiabatic computing. Finally, we will look at potential applications of Quantum Computing within the financial sector.
